The rotation has been quite uneven this season

Analysis (Foster): Going for a frontline starter now would seem to indicate the Braves believe they have a serious shot at the postseason this year. That seemed a silly thing to say coming out of spring training, but a better-than-expected first half has them in the conversation as a darkhorse contender

The rotation has been quite uneven this season, so an upgrade is definitely needed if Atlanta plans to make a run. It certainly has the prospects and expendable veterans to get a deal done, but the real question is whether it makes more sense to wait until the offseason and try to form a roster that will be in the playoff mix from opening day in 2018.

Baltimore will be very popular the next 12 days now that team owner Peter Angelos has, per Rosenthal, given GM Dan Duquette his blessing to shop the likes of Zach Britton, Brad Brach and Darren O’Day. Oh, and outfielder Seth Smith is available, too. The pitchers, of course, are the main attraction. All three are late-inning prizes, in particular Britton, the All-Star closer who is back from an elbow injury. There was immediate speculation that the Dodgers and Cubs would be big bidders for Britton. Will Angelos allow Duquette to actually make a move if a deal is agreed upon? Ehhhhh . . .

And where might he go? Truth is, this isn’t exactly a market flush with contenders looking for outfield upgrades, but that 2018 option means he’s more than just a potential rental.

Limited Mens Cobi Hamilton Jersey He’s been connected to the Dodgers in the past, and he would still represent an upgrade in center field, where Joc Pederson and Trayce Thompson rotated starts to end the first half of the season. It’s pretty much World Series or bust for that team, and McCutchen is a much more reliable option than either of those two guys in the postseason.
