the Texans have just struggled to score touchdowns this season

The only reason for Ryan to stay would have been for his abilities as a leader and motivator — qualities that tend to be nebulous and cannot be easily measured by statistics. Players enjoy Ryan’s behind-the-scenes humor, looser team rules and how he defends his players when they are under fire.

Jerry Rice Youth Jersey But the Oakland Raiders’ scoring 29 unanswered points and reversing the Bills’ 15-point lead in a crippling Week 13 loss this season spoke volumes about the mental toughness of Ryan’s team, and the squad’s discipline can be questioned in light of 255 total penalties since the start of the 2015 season — second most in the NFL.

In general, the Texans have just struggled to score touchdowns this season. Houston is last in the NFL with 23 touchdowns. Of the 12 teams that would be in the playoffs if the season ended today, the Texans have the fewest touchdowns, and it’s not very close. The Atlanta Falcons have scored 58 touchdowns this season and lead the league in that category.

Instead, the Texans have had to rely on field goals this season. Kicker Nick Novak is second in the league with 34 field goals made on 39 attempts. Novak has 11 field goals in the last three games, seven of which are thanks to the team’s red-zone shortcomings.

O’Brien said the play-calling hasn’t been good enough in the red zone. In Houston’s Week 15 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, O’Brien called a fade pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on fourth-and-goal. He later said the play-call was “horrendous” and said the Texans should have run the football.

The Jets started the season 2-0, including an impressive road win over the Colts on Monday Night Football

Authentic Womens Mikael Granlund Jersey First-year Jets head coach Todd Bowles named Fitzpatrick the starter in Smith’s absence and he quickly gained rave reviews for his leadership abilities. In his first preseason game with the Jets, offensive lineman Willie Colon said it was a “smooth groove” with Fitzpatrick under center.

The Jets started the season 2-0, including an impressive road win over the Colts on Monday Night Football (or at least it looked impressive at the time). In the immediate aftermath of that win, Bowles said Fitzpatrick would remain his starting quarterback for the rest of the year. For the first time in Fitzpatrick’s in career, he was in control of a winning team.

On Monday, Guyer released another statement with specific dates relating to Sly’s internship and his responsibilities.

Additionally, he’s a really great blitzer, so Arizona may have to do some different things without him out there. Blitzing is one of those underrated skills that some guys just seem to be good at. Timing, explosiveness and aggressiveness go into that, and Mathieu has all that.

I’m hearing reports that Lynch is doing MMA training as part of his rehab, and considering how much that focuses on strengthening your core I wouldn’t be surprised if he looked even better than new when he takes the field again.

Despite a career season, Fitzpatrick is on the verge of sitting out the playoffs for the 11th time in his career. That is, unless the Jets can knock off the Patriots on Sunday.

New Orleans Saints receiver Brandin Cooks wasn’t happy that his quarterback

New Orleans Saints receiver Brandin Cooks wasn’t happy that his quarterback, former Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees, didn’t receive an invite when Pro Bowl bids were announced Tuesday night.

Youth Dave Keon Jersey “That’s just ridiculous. It’s just ridiculous,” Cooks said Wednesday. “What are we looking at? What are we voting on? Like, I don’t get it. The guy is leading in so many categories. He’s having a great year.”

Brees leads the NFL in passing yards (4,559) and touchdown passes (34). He threw four scoring passes — including two to Cooks — as the Saints put up 48 points in a victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

“Oh man, to watch football now, I’ve been looking forward to sitting back and watching football ever since I stepped into the league. You lose that,” Johnson said. “When I was in college, I used to love to watch football on Sundays. And for nine (years), almost a decade I was away from that.

“To be able to sit back and enjoy the game, sit back and watch guys that you know played and you might have worked with it or you personally know, it’s cool, it’s awesome to sit back and say I know that guy because you’re more of a fan of that game and that person. But I’ve only been able to watch the last three or four games.”

Johnson said he mostly kept up with the Lions by reading about them and occasional conversations with players. He did see the Pittsburgh Steelers play from time to time, though, because they are often on in Los Angeles. He said a Steelers game was the first game he watched as a fan this season.

When he retired, Johnson held almost every significant Lions receiving record. He finished his career with 731 catches for 11,619 yards and 83 touchdowns. He only reached the playoffs twice, losing in the wild-card round to New Orleans after the 2011 season and Dallas after the 2014 season.

Johnson said his only regret was “not winning the Super Bowl.” But he made it clear Tuesday night: Playing football is in his past.

To live in New Orleans is to die in New Orleans

John Stephen Jones, grandson of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, was greeted first by his dad, tears streaming down the face of team CEO Stephen Jones after Dallas Highland Park clinched a Texas state high school championship.

The younger Jones scored two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score from the 1-yard line on fourth down in the third quarter, and the Highland Park Scots beat Temple 16-7 for the Class 5A Division I title on Saturday.

“Absolutely,” he said. “I talk to my owners all the time. In fact, on Saturday, we went in to discuss our game plan like we always do. I talk to them all the time.”

Ryan also said Sunday he’s not worried about getting a public display of support from Pegula about his future job status.

Elite Mens Morgan Cox Jersey “What am I going to say? Of course, you appreciate that, but it’s not necessary,” Ryan said. “That’s how I look at it. I just want to go. I’m gonna go beat Miami. We owe them that, and they’re going to get the very best we have.”

Rashad Vaughn Elite Jersey While Buffalo is preparing to part ways with Ryan, the organization is expected to retain general manager Doug Whaley, who is expected to be given a chance to hire his third head coach after having a hand in the hiring of Ryan and former Bills coach Doug Marrone.

The Bills defeated the Browns 33-13 on Sunday to snap a two-game losing streak, but they remain in jeopardy of extending the NFL’s longest active playoff drought to 17 seasons. The Bills had lost five of their past seven games entering Sunday’s game.

Ryan, in the second year of a five-year deal, was hired by the Bills after being fired by the New York Jets following the 2014 season.

Janoris Jenkins is one of several offseason acquisitions that’s made the Giants defense one of the NFL’s best

This was a toss-up game before Stafford’s injury. He’s the one guy the Lions have who needs to be healthy and is essentially irreplaceable. He’ll likely improve with the busted finger as he continues to figure out how to play with it. But this week could be a struggle, especially considering New York’s defense is extremely stingy and has a strong pass rush with 30 sacks. It’s going to be a low-scoring game and it just feels like it is trending the Giants’ way. Giants 12, Lions 7.

With a forecast that calls for a high of 1 degree, Sunday’s matchup at Soldier Field is shaping up to be the coldest game ever played in Chicago.
Given the advanced uniform technology of cold-weather gear, players today have an advantage in keeping up their core temperatures, but there still are situations when they have to lean on some old-school tricks to avoid a miserable experience on the field.

Here are seven ways players can stay somewhat warm — and still produce — when the temperatures start to drop toward zero degrees.

A jar of Vaseline is an old trick from veteran players to block out the wind. Want to look tough and avoid wearing sleeves? Rub Vaseline all over your arms and slap some on your face. It sounds kind of ridiculous, but I used Vaseline in Green Bay from Thanksgiving through the playoffs when the temperatures would fall. Players want to show off their arms on a national stage in the playoffs, but to avoid shaking from the cold, you need to cover up with Vaseline. It’s slimy and it takes some time to scrub off after the game, but it sure does work. And it’s much easier than wearing a ski mask under your helmet.

Justin Gilbert reportedly told Browns coaches he wouldn’t return to Sunday’s game

Cleveland Browns cornerback Justin Gilbert told coaches that he would not return to the game on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Lauren Brill of WEWS ABC in Cleveland. Gilbert, a 2014 first-round pick, has found himself completely out of the picture in the secondary almost immediately into his second season.

Gilbert has since refuted the report, saying Game Kids Joe Pavelski Jersey he never refused to go into the game on defense, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Chicago Bears: Reggie Ragland, ILB, Alabama
What Chicago needs on defense are a few reliable and consistent players, especially in the front seven. Ragland is a machine at inside linebacker. He always seems to be around the ball and is a sure tackler. He’s every Kids Chuck Foreman Jersey bit the player as C.J. Mosley was when the Ravens took him in the first round in 2014.

Chiefs safety Eric Berry knew how to best explain it.

“One of the greatest players of all time who was artistic in the secondary,” Berry said of Woodson. “He changed the game. He is one of those rare players who could do it all back there. He could cover at corner and roam at safety. He could shut down a great receiver and he could tackle a great running back. He could play the nickel back. He could blitz and bring down your quarterback. He made coaches a lot more open to using defensive backs in a variety of roles. He changed the way defensive coaches think nowadays. He opened the door for all of us in that way.”

“Additionally, I would like to thank Ruston Webster for all of his efforts with our franchise, as he is a man of great character and integrity and someone for whom we have tremendous respect,” said owner Amy Adams Strunk in a statement. “Our mission is to become one of the elite franchises in the National Football League, and we have fallen short of this goal in recent years.”

The club has not confirmed any of the reports, normal procedure when physical exams are pending

The Dodgers edited the narrative that they Mens Charles Johnson Jersey would suddenly go frugal this winter by reportedly re-signing closer Kenley Jansen on Monday and moving very close to a deal with third baseman Justin Turner, their two biggest free agents.

According to baseball sources, the 29-year-old Jansen agreed to a five-year, $80 million deal with an opt-out after three years. The 32-year-old Turner, according to sources, is expected to soon accept four years and about $64 million, having found a less robust market for infielders his age than Jansen did for closers.

The club has not confirmed any of the reports, normal procedure when physical exams are pending. But adding to the signing of starting pitcher Rich Hill last week, the team apparently has committed $192 million for the three players crucial to getting the Dodgers to a fifth consecutive National League West title and beyond in 2017.

That means the heavy lifting for the shopping season is over, except for filling holes at second base and setup relief, with surpluses in the outfield and starting pitching as trade bait.

Among possible targets at second base are Minnesota’s Brian Dozier, as well as free agent Chase Utley, who wants to return to Los Angeles.

Defensively, while Turner couldn’t dislodge Colorado’s Nolan Arenado for the NL Gold Glove Award at third base, he committed only nine errors and ranked fourth among NL third basemen with a .972 fielding percentage and first in Ultimate Zone Rating.

With a stellar lifetime 2.20 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 13.9 K/9 rate, Jansen will be the first closer selected in many 2017 drafts. The right-hander is among the few hurlers in baseball with a reasonable chance to provide 40-plus saves and 100-plus strikeouts next season. Additionally, fantasy owners won’t have to worry about Dodgers starting pitchers seeing many of their wins squandered with one of the game’s most reliable ninth-inning men back to protect leads.

Steelers teammates will help pay Ramon Foster’s fine for protecting Le’Veon Bell

Things got heated between the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers in their late afternoon game during Week 13 in which the Steelers came out on top, 24-14. Steelers offensive guard Ramon Foster ignited a fight between the two teams, after it appeared Giants players were bending the neck of Le’Veon Bell. He was fined $9,115 for his involvement.

Mack has has 29 sacks in his career. Ten of those have come this season, and most of them are happening in third and fourth quarters.

Mack’s performance against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football was no different. Mack sacked Alex Smith early in the third quarter, forcing a fumble, which the Raiders recovered.

It’s not just that Mack gets better as games go on — he’s also more productive as the season progresses.

Maybe it takes Mack a while to get up to speed — in games and over the course of a season — but it’s working for him.

Mack’s play has made him a front-runner for Defensive Player of the Year. If he continues his late-game and late-season dominance, his chances of earning that recognition will only improve.

Carr has thrown for 3,375 yards and 24 touchdowns with just five interceptions all season, and the Raiders are currently riding a six-game win streak and are sitting on top of the AFC due in large part to Carr’s play. Murray is no slouch either, with 553 yards and 11 touchdowns.

They couldn’t have picked a better game to attend, either. Klay Thompson scored 40 points in Golden State’s blowout win over the Pacers.

Thompson wasn’t the only one hitting shots on Monday night. Derek Carr dropped a three-point shot in a shootaround after the game.

It was a banner night for Carr, who also got a photo with Kevin Durant’s mom.

Elliott and Prescott could handle the job, they didn’t know what they could do best

Elliott has not rushed for fewer than 83 yards in any of the 11 games since. He leads the NFL in rushing with 1,285 yards and he keeps adding to his Cowboys record for most yards by a rookie in one season. He has tied Tony Dorsett’s team rookie mark with 12 touchdowns.

It’s not only the players that have changed — so have the coaches. They entered Week 1 with rookies playing major roles in their offense and not knowing what to expect. While they knew Elliott and Prescott could handle the job, they didn’t know what they could do best.

“We wanted to be balanced,” coach Jason Garrett said. “Obviously when you run the ball all those things help the quarterback, but we wanted to be mindful of that and give him things he was confident with doing, like we would with any quarterback. One thing that happens sometimes in the opening game of the season is you have six months of ideas you try to implement and sometimes as coaches you really have to discipline yourselves. We don’t have to show everything in Week 1.”

“It does seem like it was forever ago just because we’ve been through so much more as a team since then and we’ve grown so much, it does seem like it was a long time ago,” Elliott said. “But you’ve got to use it as a learning experience. We’re going to use it to make sure we do what we need to do this game.”

The Cowboys have not lost since Week 1 and Elliott and Prescott are the top two vote-getters so far for the Pro Bowl.

After failing to throw a TD pass in the Cowboys’ season-opening loss to the Giants, rookie QB Dak Prescott has 19 touchdown passes and only two interceptions in leading his team to a 11-1 record.

As he reviewed the opener this week, Prescott did not recognize the quarterback that played that night.

Andrew Luck sat out half of the season with injuries

As of now, Kiper only has two other quarterbacks going in the first round: Memphis’ Paxton Lynch at No. 15 to the Rams, and North Dakota’s Carson Wentz to the Texans at No. 22. Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg, who was recruited by current Texans and former Nittany Lions head coach Bill O’Brien, isn’t listed.

This won’t excite fans very much — can’t exactly build hopes and dreams around a pulling guard — but Kiper has four offensive linemen going in his top 18. They are: Laremy Tunsil (Ole Miss), Ronnie Stanley (Notre Dame), Jack Conklin (Michigan State) and Taylor Decker (Ohio State).

Kiper has left tackle Tunsil — in his words, a “flat out gifted prospect” — going to the Chargers at No. 3. Stanley, another left tackle who Kiper says would be the first offensive lineman off the board most seasons, is listed next at No. 6 to the Ravens, a team that can certainly use the help up front.

Baldwin shook Robinson like it was nothing.

Baldwin’s footwork, along with subtle head-and-shoulder jabs, is teaching tape on route running. This type of play in particular is an example of one where we could see Baldwin and Norman square off. Norman mostly sticks outside in coverage, with Cortland Finnegan or another slot cornerback covering inside.

That’s where Seattle could exploit some other matchups as well: Putting Baldwin inside against one of Carolina’s depth cornerbacks. One way that Seattle has been so successful in their passing game this season is to spread things out with five receivers and/or running backs out wide, which stretches the defense and forces them to spread out. In the example below, against the Vikings in their earlier matchup this year, that meant that Baldwin was matched up in a one-on-one with Antone Exum, with no additional help over the top in the right slot. Russell Wilson knew this before the snap, and took advantage of it.

Baldwin’s stutter-jab outside before cutting inside is all he needs.

He did something similar the very next week against Lardarius Webb and the Ravens. After getting Baldwin isolated on the outside against Webb, all it took was an explosive jab outside before cutting it inside.
